Farm to Table Dinner

Journeyman kicks off summer growing season with a dinner to welcome California cookbook author and honor local farmers

Thursday, June 26, 2008, 7pm

To celebrate the onset of the agricultural season in West Michigan, Journeyman in downtown Fennville will be hosting a book signing and dinner with Amelia Saltsman, author of award-winning The Santa Monica Farmer's Market Cookbook: Seasonal Foods, Simple Recipes, and Stories from the Market and Farm.

One of the largest growers-only markets in the country, the Santa Monica market has inspired renowned chefs and home cooks for over twenty-five years, and no one knows this market better than writer and teacher Amelia Saltsman. Praised by Alice Waters, Lynne Rosetto Kasper, and other culinary luminaries as "an amazing resource by a masterful cook," the book's message is universal: how to shop and cook seasonally, simply, and sustainably.

The common thread we share as Americans in support of our local food system inspired Amelia greatly during the writing of her book, the same exploration of place that happens daily in the kitchens at Journeyman. To celebrate the farm-to-table connection, we welcome our local farmers and Amelia Saltsman, who will be on hand throughout the evening to sign books and engage the community in conversation about our local food, farming, and cooking.

The chefs at Journeyman will prepare a meal inspired by the recipes from the book built from local, seasonal produce and meats. This is a wonderful opportunity for regulars and new faces alike to meet the people responsible for shaping the agricultural character of our region. Chef and co-owner Matthew Millar calls them "a source of great pride and inspiration for us in the kitchen." The event is not to be missed by anyone who wants to become more involved in our local food ways.
